When it was first announced that France had been chosen as the venue for the 1998 World Cup, nobody could have guessed that Jamaica would be fielding a team at the Finals, especially given the fact that the smaller nations in the CONCACAF group have to go through pre-qualifying games before even getting into a qualifying group.
Jamaica certainly exceeded all expectations with a string of outstanding results against nations with much greater resources. Jamaica qualified from the CONCACAF group stages for the World Cup along with Mexico and the United States.
