This work combines the functions of a reference book and practical field identification guide. It is divided into two sections. The first deals with the complete life history of the moth in all its diversity. From the 800 or so species of the "Macro" moths, 80 have been selected to illustrate the variety of lifestyles. Photographs show each moth in its natural habitat at every stage of the reproductive stage. The second part consists of a series of colour photographic plates showing set specimens of all the Macro moths. Side-by-side with the plates, the captions give flight periods, distribution, habitat and larval foodplants - all the information the reader requires to identify any species.
