This series aims to provide an introduction to the life and writing career of a wide variety of writers in English. Using quotations, illustrations and critical analyses, the book should be an aid to GCSE English. This volume covers the life and works of the short-story writer, Katherine Mansfield. She died when she was 34 but her ouptut, though small, was individual. She was influenced by Chekhov, and many of her best-loved works, such as "The Doll's House", were inspired by her childhood memories of New Zealand, and illustrate the themes of isolation, frustration and death. Most of her work was written in the knowledge of impending death. Her many friends included D.H.Lawrence and Virginia Woolf.
