Birds of prey rule the skies, hunting smaller, weaker creatures. Yet many of these magnificent birds are in danger - and the danger comes from human activity. In this book, the author looks at the main groups of birds of prey, including the giant condors and scavenging vultures, the curious secretary birds, fish-eating osprey, sky-diving falcons and the hawks, the group to which the eagles belong. In the following chapters he describes where the different species live, how they hunt for food and how they raise families. In each chapter, he also explains the dangers that are threatening them. These include loss of habitat, poisoning by pesticides and the disturbance of nesting sites.
Some birds of prey are killed deliberately by people such as farmers and fishermen. However, thanks to education programmes and changes in law, the future for birds of prey is becoming more hopeful. In the final chapter, the author suggests ways of ensuring their survival.
