The aim of the books in this series is to show children (and teachers) basic skills and techniques to enable them to enjoy making items for themselves at home and at school. Each book contains projects that reflect the ability and resources available to the age-group. "Fabrics and Yarns" introduces children to creative activity with textiles. Basic skills and techniques are explained and reinforced with projects and project ideas. Each activity is followed through using clear, easy instructions and colour artwork. The main skills covered are weaving, collage, applique, using a sewing machine and simple embroidery. Anne Coleman is a primary school teacher and author of a number of books on sewing and textiles as well as a regular contributor to "Art & Craft" and "Embroidery" magazine. She is a member of the practical study group of The Embroiderer's Guild (Teachers).
