The main aim of the book is to show the emotional difficulties not only inside the therapeutic hour but outside too. It is personal growth of a patient and gives an insight into the inner conflicts of a person going through stages of change and transitions whilst on the road to emotional recovery. It also touches on PTSD caused by childhood trauma and abuse whilst placed in foster care in the early 1980's. It highlights the importance of a psychotherapist that creates a safe environment for the patient to allow them to fully explore their feelings and be able to disclose the past even though it is something that was wished to be kept hidden. The reader is taken on an emotional journey with the patient, exploring her feelings on the way.
