Despite the fact he lost his spot in the All Blacks in 2001, this biography shows that Todd Blackadder remains one of New Zealand's favourite rugby players. A hard, grafting forward in the typical South Island mould, he is also universally admired for his humility, honesty, generosity and warmth. Blackadder last year reached the dizzying heights of All Black Captain. While his success rate was only 50 per cent against the key opposition - South Africa, Australia and France - his popularity remained undiminished. He will probably be best remembered for his deeds with Canterbury in the NPC and the Canterbury Crusaders in the Super 12, where he led his side to three successive titles. Blackadder developed a cult following not just in Canterbury, but throughout New Zealand even before he was given the All Black captaincy - almost unheard of for a player who really stamped his mark as a provincial captain.
