This comprehensive walker's guide divides naturally into four sections: Herefordshire, the Malvern Hills. the Wye Valley, the Forest of Dean. Each section has a selection of interesting walks and an introduction embracing flora, fauna and history. The walker can discover the secrets of Malvern Water, Elgar, the cider industry and the peculiar traditions of mining in the Forest of Dean, amongst many other topics. A particular value is the way in which the entire region is covered in one handy volume allowing the walker greater freedom to change area according to his or her feelings for the day. The core of this book is the selection of fifty-four walks. Each contains a route description and a sketch map, plus additional information about the area and the sights to be seen. Each route description also provides details of the Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 map(s) covering the route. Some walks give optional variations to shorten or extend the walk. Others are capable of being linked together. The aim is to provide a flexible guidebook, so that newcomers to the area can follow clear routes, but those more experienced can use the book for reference whilst devising their own routes.
The walks range in length from 2km (1 mile) to 23km (14 miles).
