This text is ideal for english-speaking readers who learn Russian or want to read this famous novel by M.Bulgakov in the original. The story concerns a visit by Satan to the atheistic USSR. Many critics consider it to be one of the best novels of the 20th century, as well as the foremost of Soviet satires. In the 1930s Moscow, Satan appears at the Patriarch Ponds in the guise of "Professor" Woland, a mysterious gentleman "magician" of uncertain origin. He arrives with a retinue: the grotesquely dressed valet Koroviev; the mischievous, gun-happy, fast-talking black cat Behemoth; the fanged hitman Azazello; the pale-faced Abadonna; and the naked witch Hella. The second setting is the Jerusalem of Pontius Pilate, described by Woland in his conversations with Berlioz and later echoed in the pages of the Master's novel. This part concerns Pontius Pilate's trial of Yeshua Ha-Notsri and his reluctant but resigned submission to Yeshua's execution. And this story is about Big Love of the Master and Margarita.
