Aiming to help students to develop the skills required for writing about poetry in exams, this book provides 15 units centred on pairs of poems which can be compared/contrasted in theme, form and style. A third of the poems are pre-20th-century works. The units can also be used as individual short schemes of work, providing for Speaking & Listening, and for diverse forms of writing apart from the analytical. Each unit begins with a pre-reading, context activity, related in theme and subject to the paired poems which follow. Additional activities follow the poems, including work for groups, pairs or individual students, and suggestions for further writing are linked to the unit theme.
