Discussing life in Britain from early times to the end of the Iron Age, this book uses material discovered by archaeologists to talk about the very first "Britons" who lived here and to discuss the arrival of "Homo Sapiens" and the Neolithic farmers from Europe who introduced crop growing, animimal husbandry and mined flint. They also buried their dead under large mounds, which can still be seen in southern England, and built Stonehenge. The farmers were followed by settlers who made fine pottery and tools of bronze. Later, traders brought iron to Britain and many of the tribes who used it became powerful and vainly tried to fight off the next invaders, the Romans.
