There is a description of each beach and the surrounding countryside with information on the quality of the water and the proximity of sewage outfalls, bathing safety and lifeguard patrols, access to the beach, map reference, local facilities including car parks, refreshments and alternative activities for rainy days, seashore and clifftop walks, and marine and coastal wildlife including nature reserves and bird sanctuaries. The Marine Conservation Society is a rapidly expanding national conservation organization which seeks to protect the marine environment and promote its practical management. Its activities include lobbying and campaigning on marine issues, research on marine life and the wardening of certain coastal sites. The Society publishes scientific reports, marine life identification guides and educational material.
