The 29th U.S. Infantry Division was one of three units selected for the first wave landing in Normandy on the 6th June 1944. Using the testimonies of veterans and the records of road units, the author tells the story from the terrible storming of Omaha beach, to the Battles of St Lô and Vire, all delivered against a determined opponent, using the defensive nature of the Normandy bay to their advantage.
