A contemporary of Palgrave, Zwemer was not only well acquainted with Islamic literature of the period, but also a well travelled missionary in Arabia. He brings both aspects of his experience to bear in his study. The book deals with the concept of monotheism as perceived from the Islamic and Christian viewpoints. The Islamic view of God is established with reference to the Koran and orthodox belief, thus presenting arguments still relevant in the present day. This doctrine is then compared and contrasted with Zwemer's own Christian standpoint as a missionary and theologian, shedding light on both Islamic and Christian teaching - their similarities and their differences.
