Across PCET settings it is acknowledged that teaching and learning must embrace creativity in order to meet the variety of needs of its learners. Current publications can be found that offer a 'recipe' approach for new and experienced teachers - a catalogue of useful and often tried and tested creative activities that teachers can use within their practice setting. However, two factors are missing from this market place provision. First, a shortage of texts that focus predominantly on the Lifelong Learning Sector (LLS), as opposed to the primary or secondary schools contexts. Secondly, publications that focus on the experiences of teachers and their learners as they engage in such creative activities. To extend the metaphor, the 'recipe' is provided but a lack of consideration for how the 'meal' is 'prepared, presented or digested'. Given the diversity of the LLS it is important to identify what has worked in particular learning settings. Increasingly in the sector, in response to central government proposals to re-engage young adults in education, teachers are being required to focus on enhancing engagement with learners and tackle classroom management issues.
For some, this has become a major challenge to existing practices. Exploring new ways of working, in addition to being aware of potential pit-falls of creative practices in different settings, assist in meeting such challenges.
