This text is prepared specifically for parish councils. Since these councils generally adjourn for the summer months, the ten services in this book have been created for a September through June year. Eight to ten minutes long, they give councils a useful, unified prayer format for the year. Each prayer service has a theme and a symbol. In most cases the theme and symbol relate to the liturgical seasons or to an American Catholic Church emphasis for the month, for example, October - "respect life". The services require little preparation, and the setting or arrangement of symbols can be done simply or more elaborately, depending on group needs, time available, or the ability of the service leader.
