The Bretton Woods conference of 1944 was of great importance for the world economy. It demonstrated a spirit of international economic co-operation, produced agreements that made possible the reconstruction of war-torn economies, and created two institutions - the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. At the 1994 Annual Meeting a conference was held to consider the future of the Bretton Woods institutions, bringing together policymakers, economists and representatives of development NGOs. This publication is a report on the proceedings of that conference.
