Born in 1882 in Hyde Park, New York, Franklin Delano Roosevelt entered public service through the encouragement of the Democratic Party and won the election to the New York Senate in 1910. He then became the assistant secretary of the navy, as well as the Democratic nominee for vice president in 1920. It wasn't until 1932 that he was elected President of the United States and took on the task of restoring faith in the American public after the economic devastation of World War I. From the Presidential Profiles series, ""The FDR Years"" details the administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt at the height of the Great Depression as he valiantly led the nation with the phrase, ""The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."" This comprehensive reference contains a section of biographical entries covering all the key personalities connected to the administration; a chronology spanning the history of the administration; and a sizable appendix including important documents, such as inaugural addresses, important presidential speeches, tables listing the members of the White House staff, cabinet members, members of Congress and the Senate, and more.
