Prior to a news, information and entertainment highway being opened by the internet, multi channel TV and mobile telephones, almost everyone bought a newspaper to satisfy their needs. Consequently, armies of journalists and photographers from every national, regional and local newspaper were deployed - some 24 hours a day - to provide their readers with the latest news, present them with an interesting story about an individual, place or an event. Delving into the depths of the Yorkshire Post's photographic files and newspaper archives, Peter Tuffrey once more has come up with a set of pictures and stories that quite marvellously capture what may be regarded as newsprint's golden age. In the pictures from the 1940s we see part of a county renowned for its manufacturing capabilities struggling to function once more after the nightmare of the Second World War. In the 1950s, people in the pictures rarely smile, we witness redevelopment taking place as well as the threat motorised transport will bring in future years to the area.
By the 1960s and 1970s changes are rampant but the book still finds time to illustrate individuals in the their daily lives, as well as featuring quirky and eccentric events.
