Ben Affleck is an American actor, screenwriter, producer, and director. Ben Affleck grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He made his first acting appearances on local Boston-area children's television shows. As an adult, he played minor roles in several films before beginning his longtime collaboration with director Kevin Smith, beginning with 1995's Mallrats and continuing with Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Jersey Girl. Affleck followed his early successes with leading-man roles in Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, The Sum of All Fears, and Daredevil. His career flagged in the early 2000s, but he received critical praise for his performance as George Reeves in the 2006 drama Hollywoodland and for his role in the 2009 political drama State of Play. In 1997, he won an Academy Award for Best Screenplay for Good Will Hunting, an honor he shared with longtime friend Matt Damon. He made his directorial debut in 2007, with Gone Baby Gone.
