The Journal of the Museum Year is a daily record of a journey around the United States which the author took via Amtrak in 2005 to see museums he had always wanted to see but had never seen and to take architectural tours of the downtowns of twenty two cities. Traveling 8000 miles in eighty days he saw 55 art museums. Interspersed with these visits he describes some of the many fascinating personalities he encountered in the hostels where he stayed as well as "on the road".
