The Duck Decoy Pond of Hale: A Rural Sketch' comes with a new introduction and further information about Hale Hall, the 'Childe of Hale', the 'Childe of Hale Hotel' and the Unsworth family. (James Unsworth, who was gamekeeper at the Decoy Pond when the 'Rural Sketch' was written in 1871, is shown on the front cover along with his dog, Jack.) It also includes verses sung at Brasenose College Oxford relating to the 'Childe of Hale'. The booklet, consequently, provides the detail needed to understand the importance of the Decoy Pond as, although once common, there are now only three surviving Decoy Ponds. The book is a wonderful read for those concerned with our rural heritage or our natural history (and specifically birds, but especially ducks). It is also of importance if you are interested in the history of Hale, Lancashire, Cheshire or have the surname Unsworth! It comes with many black and white photographs. Overall it's a delightful celebration of local history.
