This publication is a catalogue of Korean ceramics from the distinguished collection of the Fitzwilliam Museum, University of Cambridge, highlighting some of the finest achievements in the East Asian ceramic tradition. The book features nearly 70 celadon wares from the Koryo period (918-1392) and a smaller group of punch'ong and porcelain wares from the Choson period (1392-1910). The introductory essay examines the production and consumption of celadon wares during the Koryo dynasty, focusing on the high point of celadon manufacture in the 12th and 13th centuries. Recent archaeological material is discussed and some long-held assumptions about the history of Koryo celadon are also reassessed.
