This book consists of 26 chapters, corresponding to every two weeks throughout the year. Each chapter provides a discussion of a particular biological, geological, botanical or zoological phenomenon that could be easily observed at that particular time of the year. Organized chronologically, the book provides all year round activity, with no special or complicated equipment necessary, other than basic amateur naturalist's tools, such as magnifying glass and glass jars. Although fully descriptive, there are plenty of hands-on activites and suggestions for involving the reader and a reference section is included for each chapter, to aid further activity or investigation. In addition, the book is illustrated with line art and the author's own photographs.
