The authors propose and develop a global energy strategy for the long term which they believe would lead to a sustainable world society. This strategy would support the solutions of major global problems, particularly those linked to energy. Other problems, such as global economic crisis, widespread poverty, and nuclear weapons proliferation are also considered. The authors claim that, by using an "end-use approach" to energy, one which studies present uses to find more effective ones, it is feasible to meet economic goals without running against energy supply constraints. Finally, there is a discussion on how this future strategy could be used without major institutional changes. Unlike other energy strategies of its kind, this one supports solutions of other global problems. It explores the prospects of improving energy efficiency in both developing and industrialized countries and recognizes that the future of energy is more of a matter of choice than once believed.
