The Standehaus in Dusseldorf has been fully restored and converted and is now open to the public. Built in the late 19th century, it served until 1988 as the home of the Northrhine-Westphalia Parliament. After it moved to a new site the old building stood empty for years. It has recently been converted so that the ground floor will provide the regional parliament and Government with a suitable venue for its grander occasions and the remaining floors will house contemporary art. This volume addresses the problems for a museum of contemporary art in its starting phase, taking the reader through the museum's opening exhibition.
