The state of Oregon is the grass-seed capital of the world and every year thousands of acres of stubble are burned to make way for next year's crop. In August 1988, one of these fires burned out of control and engulfed the main interstate highway, and many people were killed. In one vehicle was the family of William Wharton's daughter, who were - evidence suggests - slowly incinerated. This is their story, a true story, told like a novel in four parts. Part One is told by the daughter, Part Two by her husband, Part Three by William Wharton. The fourth part is William Wharton's struggle to see justice done.
