Each anthology in the poetry series covers one of the four seasons. The selection is intended to be as wide as possible, covering a range of verse, from the lyrical to the humorous. They all contain well-known favourites as well as poems never published before. Each poem is illustrated with a carefully chosen photograph, which helps to bring the verse alive. "Poems for Summer" includes 21 poems, covering all aspects of summer. There are poems about the seaside, eating ice cream and lying in tall summer grass. Other topics include drought, hot days in cities and fishing. There are also many poems about animals. The anthology includes poems by Ted Hughes, Rudyard Kipling, E.E.Cummings and Emily Dickinson.
