Football coach and manager Jack Charlton believes that young players should learn basic skills in football before going on to learn strategy and tactics. Here he describes the techniques of kicking, heading, accurate passing and ball control, as well as methods of practising these techniques. As a professional footballer, Jack Charlton played for Leeds United for 25 years, made 36 appearances for England and was a member of the England World Cup winning team in 1966. Since retiring from active play, he has been voted Manager of the Year in 1976 after winning the second division championship with Middlesborough, and has managed the Republic of Ireland national team.
