Mrs. Mary Florence Potts of Ottumwa, Iowa, (1850/51-1922) received two patents for her "Cold Handle Sad Iron". Her first patent: May 24, 1870, "Doubled Pointed Iron". Her second patent: April 4, 1871, "Cold Handle". Her patents revolutionized clothing iron production in America.
