Becoming a Reader: Teacher's Book 2 accompanies the resources in the second phase of the scheme and gives essential guidance on how to introduce the scheme in Primary School Year 1/Primary 2. There are two parts. Part 1 has a fold-out grid showing all the resources in the first three phases and begins with an overview of the scheme. The remaining four sections give information on: sets and genre; suggested pathways through the books; the Big Books; group reading; the poetry and rhyme books; the reading development worksheets; links between reading and writing; developing phonics; building a sight vocabulary; home-school links and record keeping and assessments. Part 2 consists of the reading development and phonics worksheets that accompany each book, together with background notes and suggestions on ways to use them within the context of group reading.
