The Oval has had a unique history among cricket grounds. For almost 150 years it has been the home of Surrey County Cricket Club, and has also been the cricket "home" of Tom Hayward, Tom Richardson, Lohmann, Hobbs, Jardine and many more. It has staged some of the greatest matches of all time - the first Test Match in England, the "Ashes" Test in 1882, Jessop's Test in 1902 and the most crushing Test Victory in 1938. It has also seen the sun rise and set over many great careers - the Test debuts of Woolley, Verity, Compton, Evans and Tyson, W.G.Grace's last first-class match, Don Bradman's farewell to Test cricket. "The History of Foster's Oval" gives an account of the Oval's story, from the 14th century through to the present day.
