I haven't read a mermaid book, well ever now I think about it but the cover on this one sucked me in and I'm really feeling retellings at the moment.

Lena is a merrow (mermaid) who she dreams of seeing the surface but after what happened to Mette the Merrow Queen this is forbidden. Lena is quite submissive as a character and I hope as the series continues she becomes less damsel in distress more Xena Warrior Princess. She is quite young so could just be finding her place but there were times when I wanted her to stand up for herself a bit, towards the end of the book she did a little bit.

My absolute favourite character was Edwin. I would love to sit and listen to his stories all day. I also liked Soren but I am also a bit weary of him. I hope he is someone to trust.

This book was well written with good world building. The merrow world isn't too dissimilar to ours but I loved the legend of the Queen Merrow. Chantal weaves such a wonderful tale I was drawn in instantly. I'm really looking forward to reading more of Chantal's books.

This was a very good start to what I hope will be a fantastic series. This book ends on such a cliffhanger I am now dying for the next book.  I am so intrigued to see where this story goes.
