The 1940s - Britain emerging victorious from the ruins of WWII, heralded a Labour Prime Minister into government in the first vote for a decade, and a new era of hopefulness and social reform began. A sharp focus on home affairs after the horrors seen abroad meant the development of a Welfare State to rid the land of 'Want, Greed, Squalour and Idleness' (though no mention of having too many remotes for the DVD, telly and everything). Though not all were as radicalised by the idea- the upper classes were stunned- 'They've gone and elected a Labour government. The country won't stand for it!'
