This book is concerned with the reciprocal relations between content and method in Christian theology. How may the personal confessions of theologians influence, for good or ill, their theological method? Conversely, may methodological decisions yield attenuated accounts of Christian doctrines? More particularly, what may be the confessional result of undue emphasis upon the ontological at the expense of the moral? These are the questions that sprang from the author's reading of the works of Nels Ferre. Sell argues that while Ferre wrote on a wide variety of subjects, and hence the above questions are not directly posed at all points, the considerations which prompt them are seldom far below the surface.
