Pathways books provide ideal material for the teaching of the Literacy Framework and now these Teacher's Notes provide support and ideas for all the teaching aspects of the Framework on a year by year basis.
* An introductory section provides information about using the Pathways books in the literacy hour.
* 20 titles are recommended as guided readers - but the notes are flexible so that teachers can choose their own books
* There are ten big books at this level but ideas are also provided to help teachers use some of the other titles as shared readers e.g. enlarged photocopy of a particular page
* A double page of notes for each Pathways books provides:
- links to literacy objectives at word, sentence and text levels
- a brief synopsis of the book, linked to text range
- ideas for activities for shared, guided and independent reading and writing
- activities which link to the Pathways to Literacy Activity Masters. There are five activity masters for each big book and two for each of the other books
* Tables at the back of the book cross-reference the Pathways books to the literacy text range and to literacy objectives at word, sentence and text levels
* Notes and photocopiable record sheets are also provided for assessment.
