The SCAD III case is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in audit decision-making. These assignments allow students to audit the sales-billing-collection cycle of a hypothetical company. This case study may be the students' first exposure to integrating their knowledge of financial accounting, accounting theory, sampling, statistical inference, information systems, information economics (decision theory) and human behaviour in organizations. This case study supplements an accounting text and reinforces major concepts and techniques presented in the classroom; specific SCAD III assignments are designed to follow the instructor's lectures of the stages in the audit process. Students are required to prepare working paper documentation for use with SCAD III to support the audit opinion. Using this software should expand upon students' previous experience working with computers. The program received the American Accounting Association (AAA) award for "Innovation in Accounting Education".
