I read both books in this duology back-to-back. The story was fine, but I felt there was something lacking in the way the tension built and was eventually resolved. Not all the pieces seemed to be in place, but both books are quick reads.
This book is a great mix of romance and suspense. It starts with Cora's escape from her abusive uncle. I just always have a hard time with abuse and I held my breath during her escape. Fast forward and we meet Andra (aka Cora). She is living a nice life on a ranch in Colorado, where she meets Julian, a mystery writer who may just capture her heart, if Andra can push her past aside long enough to let him in. I loved being a witness to Andra and Julian's romance. Their interactions and the courtship just won me over. And I was rooting for her to be able to show her true self to Julian and to be able to just break free of her past, but her past was something that she could not escape. It was constantly there, nipping at her heels and sabotaging her life. Loved the characters, throughly enjoyed the mystery mixed with romance. Already started the next book.
