Charles James Tyers was a 19th century surveyor, explorer and administrator in the State of Victoria, Australia. His life as an administrator is well documented, but little is available of his early life. This book is written to fill that gap. It tells of his parents, siblings and schooling at Christ's Church Bluecoat School, and explores the mystery surrounding the origins of his close friendship with Edmund Kennedy of Jackey Jackey fame who perished on Cape York in 1849.
