This book presents a concise introductory text, covering the core topics of cognitive psychology in one short volume. The book highlights information about cognitive approaches to psychological functioning, thus can also be easily read by those with little previous knowledge of the subject. It covers a wide range of material that is in-depth and to a high academic standard. The volume starts by explaining the context of the subject, then proceeds to explain approaches, perception, attention, knowledge and language, each of which are broken down into several chapters. These areas will be examined in the context of the attendant themes of input, storage, throughput and output. In order to make this sometimes difficult subject matter more accessible, the author uses a central theme of an 'incredible' journey through an information processing system as the backdrop for explaining the detail of the human cognitive system. A final section looks at current issues in relation to our knowledge of human cognition.
