This report looks at the experience of being involved in prostitution as a child in order to improve inderstanding of the needs of children and young people who are involved, and to provide information for agencies developing strategies to help them. Based on first hand accounts and interviews with 50 people who became caught up in prostitution as children this book provides a unique insight into the complex factors that lead to children becoming involved in prostitution, the reasons that force them to continue and the obstacles that make it hard for them to escape. It also explores the implications of the research for policy and practice and makes detailed recommendations relating to the provision of services to meet the needs of young people involved in prostitution; the law and policing; education and the labour market and welfare benefits. The reports invaluable focus on people's own accounts reveals the complex relationship that exists between involvement in prostitution, drug abuse and poverty.
