The Comanche were the most feared tribe in the staked plains. They were the most powerful of the American Indian tribes and were often called "Lord of the Plains." In May of 1836 they raided Fort Parker in Texas, killing five and capturing two youngsters, Cynthia Ann Parker and her brother John. Eight years later Cynthia Ann married Comanche Chief Peta Nocona and they had three children. Quanah Parker rose to be War Chief of the Quahadi band. He never lost a battle with the white man. The Texans feared and hated him. On June 2, 1875 he led his people onto the reservation at Ft. Sill, OK and surrendered. While here he was chosen as a Tribal Judge, he provided forceful leadership, he lobbied congress and plead the cause of the Comanche Nation. He supported farming and education as a new way of life for the Comanche. The Texans came to love and honor him. This is the story of Quanah Parker, the Last Comanche Chief.
