North Staffordshire had some fine country and urban Houses which have been demolished or changed their usage. This book portrays c.90 properties of which most are demolished, substantially ruined, or reduced, including Maer Hall, where some 70 Victorian rooms were removed in the 1960s. Some sites had several buildings over the centuries. Substantial homes include Alton Towers, Trentham, Maer, Ilam, Aqualate, Calwich and Highfield - all gone, ruined or much reduced. It includes some early houses removed many years ago, eg Beresford Hall and Throwley, both gone by the 1850s. The book consists of text and old images in Part I and a Directory of additional bygone scenes of other houses not researched in depth in Part II. Contemporary photographs and engravings have both been used.
