The Leadership, Ethics, and Law Department (LEL) of the U.S. Naval Academy is putting together a compendium of short biographical essays focusing on naval (Navy and Marine Corps) personnel who have embodied certain leadership characteristics. Experts in their respective subjects are writing the essays.

Colonel Joseph Thomas is coordinating the project. Authors include several from the Naval and Marine Corps Historical Centers, Professor John Hattendorf (Ernest J. King Professor of Maritime History at the Naval War College), Professor William McBride (of the U.S. Naval Academy History Department), and Dr./Captain David Rosenberg (head of the Chief of Naval Operations'`Task Force History').
