This is a biography of Winona Ryder. A child star at 13, she grew up in front of the camera and is the first American actress since Natalie Wood to transcend a career from adolescence to adulthood. It is the story of an A-list actress who refuses to conform to the Tinseltown ideal of fame. Winona built her career on her own terms to create a fan following from her early roles in "Beetlejuice", "Edward Scissorhands" and "Heathers", and later in "The Age of Innocence", "Little Women" and "The Crucible" - a total of 20 films in all. Her wide-eyed naivety belies her determination, talent and maturity as she moves into film co-production. There is coverage of: her engagement to Hollywood rebel Johnny Depp, and how she called it off; and her unorthodox childhood on a California commune around such counterculture luminaries as her godfather Timothy Leary, Allen Ginsberg, Ken Kesey and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. The book contains movie stills, candid shots, plus memorabilia. It includes a complete filmography, plus an indication of works in progress.
Nigel Goodall is the author of "Cher in Her Own Words", "Elton John: A Visual Documentary", "George Michael in His Own Words", "Jump Up: The Rise of the Rolling Stones", and co-author (with Peter Lewry) of "The Complete Cliff Richard Chronicle" and "The Ultimate Cliff".
