The Lumberjanes are back for another volume! Seriously, I couldn’t be happier about the fact that this series is still going strong. I don’t even want to think about the idea of the series eventually ending…so let’s just pretend that that could never happen!
The lighter tones of this series have always made this series perfect for an escape. Sure, the fantastical and whimsical elements help too, but mostly it’s the upbeat plots and characters that help free us from our daily woes.
I just love how happy and caring the Lumberjanes always are. It doesn’t matter what the issue is, they’ve always got each other’s backs and they will stubbornly find their way through any mess. And, like any volume, our Lumberjanes naturally found a way to get themselves into a bit of trouble and keep everyone busy at the same time.
The first issue is probably the most heartwarming issue of the entire series so far – which I feel like is saying something. I don’t want to ruin it for you, but it’s basically all about Barney and everyone’s reaction to them joining their camp. It’s cute, it’s sweet, and it’s got some funny points too. So it’s perfect.
The rest of the volume focuses more on one single plot, which is always fun. Do you remember the Yetis? Well, they’re back. And there are more of them than before. That probably wouldn’t have been a problem, had it not been for…well…the best way to describe them would be cabin stealing hipster Yetis. Yeah, that fits.
Granted, the Yetis that had been watching the place weren’t exactly doing their job either, but we probably should have seen that twist coming, right? And Rosie certainly should have seen that coming. But, that’s how it goes at Lumberjanes camp.
Anyway, one thing leads to another and before you know it the whole camp is outside a death trap cheering on the Roanoke cabin (plus some other Lumberjanes, of course) as they fight the Yetis…in a roller derby match!
Okay, I know how that sounds, but it’s actually really funny and interesting, I promise. I mean, it’s the Lumberjanes. Leave it to them to find a creative solution to the problem. And it’s probably better than trying to actually fight the Yetis. Plus, these guys are harmless – they’re jerks, but they’re harmless.
I loved this volume. For one thing, it was nice to see Barney get formally accepted into the Lumberjanes, as well as other the other details that came from that. Seeing the team play roller derby was fun too. I’m not sure if they’ll bring their new roller derby ring up again, but I kind of hope so.
