I really liked this book, it’s full of Zombies and set in the future! It has a kick-ass main character, who would go to any lengths to save everyone in the Bastion, especially the man she loves. This book starts off putting you right into the action of the soldiers trying to push the zombies away from the wall, so you don’t have to wait to get into the good stuff.
The setting for this book is set in the future, where the humans live behind a wall to avoid the Scourge (zombies). The gate that kept their valley safe was opened, many people died, and the zombies are just waiting for them. The Scourge are a bit different than the regular kind of Zombie though. They’re more preserved and look almost like they did before, aside from the wounds. They attack only to bite and pass on the virus and they don’t actually eat flesh, but they’re fast and if they see or hear you they will not stop.
Maria and Dwayne were such a cute couple too! Even though he is a bit older and has kids, they just came together after the first big battle and they fit each other. Even though they are apart, they miss each other so much and go through so much to make sure they other is safe in their own way.
The SWD is behind the plan to clear the valley and save the people living in teh Bastion. There are tons of secrets that the SWD is keeping, especially about the operation that Maria eventually goes through. She is capable of walking among the Scrags, but at a price. They gather a bunch of other soldiers as well for the mission, and they go out, close the gate, and start killing the zombies. Of course not everything goes as planned, there’s betrayals and lies, but tons of awesome battles!
If you love zombie books, and want a book that’s not part of a series but is totally awesome with great characters, then read this!
