West of Windmill Hill recaptures former times in Holsworthy and the surrounding area as seen through the eyes of the author. Looking back to a childhood in the late forties and fifties he recalls local characters and considers changes which have taken place in a wider context since the late 1800s. David Axtell was born and educated in the West Country to which he has now returned with his wife and family after a career as a journalist in London.
