O'Neill was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature and four Pulitzer prizes including a posthumous award for "Long Day's Journey into Night". He is thought by some to have revolutionized the American theatre. John Lahr's introduction examines O'Neill from a psychological perspective and includes some discussion of his early childhood.
