This biography looks at the life and work of Sacheverell Sitwell, poet, writer, traveller and aesthetic adventurer. Drawing on a large collection of family papers, this book reconstructs Sachie's life at the epicentre of English culture and the range of his friendships, literary, artistic and social with, among others, T.S. Eliot, William Walton, Diaghilev, Harold Acton, Evelyn Waugh, and Bendor, Duke of Westminster. Underpinning his life is the extraordinary story of the Sitwell family, of Sachie's father, the eccentric, machiavellian Sir George, his mother, the tragic Lady Ida, and their lives in their vast and haunted ancestral home, Renishaw Hall in Derbyshire and their medieval castle in Tuscany. Above all, the book traces the symbiotic relationship between the siblings, Edith, Osbert and Sachie.
